29 Aug The Final Concert in Manchester Music Festival Summer Series Ends with a Bang
Caren Levine is a superb pianist and “accompanist” (a term I hate, it is so misunderstood), and her opening of the second half of the program illustrates what I had wished for the beginning. When I saw a piano solo – and the title, “Flowers from a Secret Admirer “- I feared it would be a weak reentry after intermission and the big Verdi duet just before. Was I ever mistaken! “Composer of jazz piano literature” said the program notes and if I had only read them by the time I might have been better prepared for her stunning piece and playing of it. Wow!
