02 Aug Soprano delivers Intimate Evening of Song
It was soprano Barbara Bonney’s second appearance in Festival Vancouver’s opening days… Here she was in her milieu, with only pianist Caren Levine to accompany her… Beginning the program with the familiar “Frauenliebe und Leben”… Betraying a woman’s life that probably isn’t as politically correct as some would like it today. Schumann’s natural gift for melody and pianistic accompaniment, combined with Bonney’s sensitive, secure voice and Levine’s equally sensitive playing, overcame objections.
